2008 N.P.P. LATE MODEL SERIES RACE FORMAT
A ‘regular’ night of racing with the Northern Provincial Pipeline Late Model Series will be broken down into three segments as follows:
QUALIFYING HEAT 1
QUALIFYING HEAT 2
QUALIFYING HEAT 3
---------------------------------
‘B’ DASH
‘A’ DASH
---------------------------------
FEATURE
QUALIFYING HEATS
Lineup for the heat races are unchanged from past seasons. It remains based on current position in point standings. All heats are inverted unless there is a rookie driver in the lineup. Rookies will be placed at the back of their individual heats until the probationary period is over. Based on a 6 car field (no rookies) number 1 in season points will go to the 6th position in heat #1. Number 2 in points goes to the 6th position in heat #2. Number 3 in points goes to the 6th position in heat #3. Each heat race is 8 green flag laps in length. The top 4 cars from each heat race transfer to the ‘A’ Dash. Remaining cars transfer to the ‘B’ Dash.
Note: Qualifying heats will be 8 laps in length. Race tracks have the option of increasing the number of laps to 10.
DASH
Lineup for the 'A' Dash will be determined randomly by a pill draw. Heat winners will always draw first, followed by drivers who finished second, third, etc. So as not to favor the winner of Heat 1 every event, a heat 'order' will be randomly determined before each race night. This will not only determine the order of the pill draw for 'A' Dash competitors, it automatically determines the transfer order and lineup of 'B' Dash competitors. (The heat order will not be revealed to drivers)
EXAMPLE: (Heat order 2, 3, 1) The winner of Heat 2 would be the first driver to pill draw for the starting lineup of the 'A' Dash. The winner of Heat 3 would draw next followed by the winner of Heat 1. Second place drivers from the heats would draw in the same order. The driver who finished fifth in Heat 2 would sit on the poll for the 'B' Dash. The driver who finished fifth in Heat 3 would sit on the outside of row 1 of the 'B' Dash. The driver who finished fifth in Heat 1 would start inside on row two of the 'B' Dash. Drivers who finished 6th, 7th etc., would transfer in the same order.
>The ‘A’ Dash will be 12 laps in length.
>The ‘B’ Dash will be 8 laps in length.
NEW: Passing points will be issued in both Dash race events. 2 points are awarded for every position gained.
FEATURE
How you finish the ‘A’ or ‘B’ Dash is how you will line up for the Feature. (Rookie rules apply). If track officials are forced to cancel 'A' or 'B' Dashes (bad weather approaching/time constraints), the starting lineup will be according to the pill draw/transfer order out of the Qualifying Heats for that particular night of racing. The Feature will be 25 laps in length. For special events the length of the feature could be increased. (35 - 50laps)
